European Games in Belarus: Ukraine is in the top three in total medal count

The Second European Games took place in Minsk (Belarus) from 21 to 30 June.

The continent’s biggest sports forum gathered more than 4,000 athletes from 50 countries. They competed  for 200 awards in 15 kinds of sport,  8 of which will become qualifying to the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Competitions in Boxing and Judo were held in the European Championships status.

Ukrainian athletes have won 51 medals, including 16 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 18 bronze medals during the 2019 European Games.

«Ukraine ranks third in the Second European Games in Minsk. It was Ukraine’s best performance in the European Games ever» , —  reported on Facebook Ihor Zhdanov, the Minister for Youth and Sport of Ukraine.

The Minister thanked the entire team — the athletes, the coaches, doctors and the staff. Zhdanov underlined that such result retracts all rumors about Ukrainian sport being in decline, and hundreds of best athletes are leaving Ukraine.

Mariya Povkh and Liudmyla Kuklinovska – rowing and canoe sprint, kayak double, 200m
Ganna Solove – cycling – track, 25 km
Yuliia Tkach – freestyle wrestling, 62 kg
The national team of Ukraine – athletics, team competition
Viktor Vykhryst – boxing, heavyweight
Zhan Beleniuk – Greco-Roman wrestling, 87 kg
Oleksandr Khyzhniak – boxing, 75 kg
Oleg Verniaev – artistic gymnastics, uneven bars
Anastasia Bachynska – artistic gymnastics, floor exercise
Anita Serogina – Karate, Kumite, 61 kg

Stanislav Horuna – Karate, Kumite, 75 kg.

Belarusian athletes took the second place (69 medals, including 24 golds) and Russia took the first place with 109 medals.

The third European Games will be held in 2013 in Krakow, Poland.
